Our collection (click on the Catalog tab above):

  • Come in to borrow books, DVD’s, VHS, CD’s, books-on-tape, and magazines
  • Large print collection (adult fiction); referrals to Special Services for visually impaired patrons and others who have trouble reading print
  • Young adult section and extensive children’s collection

Our extended resources:

  • Free interlibrary loan (anywhere in Vermont, and beyond if necessary)
  • Free internet access/WiFi  – available on the library public access computers or outside 24/7
  • How-to general:  Click on the link to log in to Listen-Up Vermont. We are listed as Castleton Public Library. When prompted to enter your library card number, enter 5574 (our phone #) and then the 5 digits on your Castleton Free Library card, without any letters, spaces or introductory zeros (Sorry this is confusing – we had to update to a new card format, and until everyone has the new card, it will be a bit convoluted.) Feel free to contact us if you have misplaced your card. Many thanks to Rockingham Library for sharing the following how-to pages:
  • How-to page for Apple  devices
  • How-to page for Nook/Android devices
  • How-to page for Kindles
  • How-to:  Click on the link to set up your account. Note that when it asks for your library card number, you must enter your number in our new, long format: 2VSNY0000##### (the pound signs are the digits on your card) – 14 characters total.  Call us if you need help or have misplaced your card.
  • VOL (Vermont On-Line) – databases of full-text periodicals, free foreign language classes, Chilton guides, heritage resources – access in the library or from home
  • How-to: We’re sorry – at least for now, first-time users must contact the library for a password.
  • Universal Class – over 500 online courses that you can take free with your library card
  • How-to:  Are you a lifelong learner? Would you like to take an online course at your own pace, from your own or a library computer? About 500 different continuing ed. courses (not for credit) are now available to you FREE. Start by clicking on the link to explore the course list. Then follow the same steps (instructions above) as you would to set up a one-click digital account (2VSNY0000##### where the # signs represent your unique borrower number).  Call us if you need help.  Once you set up your account, you can access it whenever you want with a username and password that you make up.
