The Castleton Free Library is located at 638 Main Street, Castleton, Vermont.

Open hours:

Tuesday and Wednesday 2:00 – 6:00, Thursday 12:00 – 8:00 Friday 10:00 – 6:00, and Saturday 10:00 – 2:00.

We are closed on Sunday & Monday. Check below for holiday and weather closings.

Accessibility project

Construction has begun on our Elevator project making the second story of the library accessible! Please be aware that the rear entrance is now closed for the duration of the project. Please use our front entrance. Our side parking lot will also be closed from time to time to accommodate deliveries. There is a possibility that during the construction the library will be without water and electricity. During these times, the library will have to close. Our hope is to have all closings posted on the website (see above) and on our social media in a timely manner so you can plan ahead for your library visit. We apologize for the inconvenience but hope you are excited as we are for the wonderful changes coming to the library!

The Castleton Free Library proudly announces the formation of the Tom Smith Writer’s Group for Fiction and Poetry. This is an encouraging workshop for writers to share and develop their work. Bring something you’re working on for feedback or just to share.

The meetings will be held on the 2^nd Tuesdays of the month in the Library at 6:00 PM. Group size is limited. Please call the library at 468-5574 for more information and for space availability.
